Literacy

As the term comes to a close and curriculum lessons end, revision beings and literacy time continues. For every literacy lesson, the children revise through 50 letter sounds. With so many letter sounds learnt, it was time to have the children pen down what they learnt. This time, they thought of words that had the sound 'gr' and wrote it down in a list as well as wrote a few sentences on one of the words selected. They drew a picture of the selected word too!

Words that the children thought of:
  • Green
  • Grandmother
  • Grandfather
  • Grin
  • Grapes
  • Grass
  • Grey
  • Grasshopper
  • Grinder
  • Ground
  •
Below are some pictures showing the children at work as they wrote the list of words starting with the sound 'gr' and composed sentences consisting of some of those words.

Besides thinking of words that begin with the sound 'gr', children also discussed about words with the beginning sounds 'pl' and 'sh'. From their contribution, it has indeed been proven that their vocabulary has improved! Children were also able to read these words using the blending method: a way of blending the letter sounds to form/read a word. Two thumbs up, K2 children!
